I heard something about a 32 Port FC Asic. It reminded me of an earlier post on this thread: It would be cool to see something like this coming about. A 32 Port ASIC could become the building block for quite a system.

"Visions of giant Infiniband Directors filled my head. Directors with 32 Port Modules popping in,as needed, to form multi-thousand port fabrics. I pictured DWDM Fibers carrying 256 Channels of Multistaged Lightwaves, weaving an Optical Fabric, from the "Mother" of all DWDM Infiniwave Directors out to the smallest of Infiniband Switches embedded in Motherboards, factory Robots and Internet Appliances, that keep the world humming at an ever faster pace"
