Frank- Just in case you didn't see this stat-- 3 million FTTC lines installed. I don't know about you, but it surprised me. Do you know if this translates to running fiber lines out to the numerous Realtec DLC field cabinets? Which of course explodes into millions of lines. In this case 3 million.
As you probably recall, Marconi's US presence was established via FORE Systems(ATM switch specialist) and then Realtec(DLC specialist) purchases.
I'm really out of touch with exactly what Marconi's "FTTC" means. As you can see, I'm thinking it's a Pronto-like move with BellSouth as the SP instead of SBC. Am I close? -MikeM(From Florida) _____________________________
Marconi Claims Fiber Access Milestone
PITTSBURGH -- Marconi, a global provider of advanced communications solutions, today announced that it has reached a key milestone in optical access – deploying more than three million lines of fiber-to-the-curb capacity and extending the power of optics to homes across North America.
Fiber-to-the-curb solutions enable service providers to bundle affordable next-generation services to homeowners, including high-speed Internet access, telephony services, cable and direct broadcast satellite (DBS) television, video-on-demand and home security. Service providers who have installed fiber-to-the curb solutions are positioned to easily upgrade their networks as bandwidth demand increases, and even deploy fiber-to-the-home.
"Fiber-to-the-curb is really coming of age. Increasingly, both new and established service providers are finding this an exciting and affordable solution -- for communities of any size," said Mike Pratt, executive vice president and general manager, Access Products Group, Marconi. "Marconi is eliminating the bottlenecks that prevent today's consumers from fully leveraging the high-bandwidth applications that will change the way we all live, work and play." |
