<< Oh, yes. Via owed AMD a lot. AMD gave via 100% market share in the socket A chipset front by sharing its technology and helping via to develop the KT133 chipset. Monopoly with fat margin, which is what VIA wanted and got. And that has benefited via greatly. >>

You make it sound like AMD did this just to play mister nice guy, they had to give someone the chipset business because they didn't have the proper resources to do it themselves. They picked via because they were probably the best choice out there. VIA still acted in the best way for VIA, which is what you should have expected them to do.

<< AMD is done with VIA and so will Intel as soon as they are done using them. Via will be left with nothing in no more than 9 months. >>

I'm sure AMD will continue to lean on Via as time goes on until they have the resources to do their own chipsets, even then they'll still likely seed via (as well as sis/ali/micron if they come through). As far as Intel, they'd be done with via already, except they just don't have a competitive offering, and they'll probably want to use via to get around the ddr/rambus fiasco without breaking their contract. I'd be very surprised if VIA weren't around a year from now.

You seem to take the via thing as a total fiasco, where would we be without via? Do you think ali or sis would have had a chipset ready by now that worked as well? AMD didn't seem to have the resources to do it themselves or they probably would have.
