The rating is called the Capability Maturity Model, cmm. The ratings are handled by a certain suborganization of the Department of Computer Science at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh. I forget its name. I'm not sure if they sell or otherwise distribute their lists or not. I've studied their testing procedures for the ratings somewhat. Basically they want to cover all bases and find out if the company has specific people delegated to be responsible for a very large number of specific tasks and what exactly do they do. Who, name or names, handles quality control? To whom do they report? Whence is their data? What do their reports contain? etc. etc. Companies which are very informal and in which people are not sure who is responsible for what will do very poorly on the cmm rating. So far as I know this rating is unique, i.e. there does not exist a similar organization. That's unlike the bond raters, of whom as we know there are at least two.
