Well, it's totally irrational to put much stock in random rumors, but SI wouldn't be much without them.

More seriously, DeMone seems to put a lot of stock in the trace cache. My understanding from your posts is that it only works at full speed if all the branch predictions are correct, and if a prediction is incorrect, you got a 20 cycle stall, even if the target is in the trace cache. Though the trace cache may save the 8 cycle decode pipe.

Is that an approximately correct summary? If so, it doesn't seem that frightening, but who knows?
