Sadly I cannot access the NYT article. It would be a FUN read for me.
I take Dr. Hawking's side on this debate. I can't imagine information surviving entry into a black hole in a "readable" manner.

Of course, that said ... the universe is a bigger place than my imagination.

But not by MUCH, lol
