But also consider that many of these such employees have no savings, have no money left over to save, etc. Fast forward 30 years. What are you going to do for them then? Too old to work, too sick to work, and not a dime saved? At least FICA forces you to (IN THEORY) pay into a system that will help you live in your old age. If that money could be diverted to ones own personal account, untouchable until 65, then it would work. If you are giving it to them to spend right now here today, it's a recipe for disaster.
