Jack, yes I have a position in a few of the powercosm stocks.
The entire concept makes a lot of sense to me. I try not to get to bogged down in the specific technology. That tends to make me somewhat useless on threads that debate the merits of various technologies. (Actually, that is why I subscribe and read various forums)
For those not familiar, the concept is rather simple. To power the "New Internet Economy", higher quality, more reliable power is needed. Power is graded in "nines" with lower being lower grade (say 3 nines) versus higher (nine nines). \while a three nine supply is adequate for the TV or light bulb, outtages and surges can disrupt more intricate devices. Thus, the need to upgrade reliability. The recent improvements in "powerchip" technology allows for the seamless and uninterrupted switching of power supplies from one source to another. This has opened markets (along with deregulation) for companies that produce alternative power sources such as generators, flywheels, etc. Some are stationary sources, some mobile and some embedded. Powercosm companies provide solutions for these upgraded power needs and address those markets. Many, many players participate and I recommend the Huber/Mills letter and, of course further due diligence before deciding.
I have bought and positioned some AMSC, EMR, IRF and PWER. No real rhyme or reason. AMSC I acquired on the cheap when the first report came out. It traded around 15 at the time. Bought IRF and EMR because they seemed to be a bit more seasoned and were reasonable valuation wise. (low psr'ss, reasonable multiple and decent growth rates). PWER was called the "Cisco of the Powercosm?" on the report. Had a run and announced a 2-1 split still pending. A bit pricey but seems to have been adopted by the mo-mo gang. Took a small shot at close to these levels.
Again, these are not recommendations to buy or sell anything specific. Do your own dd and invest according to your goals and within your financial means. (that disclaimer unfortunately is necessary ala my compliance people.).
There is a thread on SI on the subject but it is rather quiet.
Best of luck
