In practice what happens when you try to do this is that a lot of time and effort is spent in figuring out who is at fault for the faulty installation.

The concept behind self install is very simple. If you want to do it yourself- go ahead. If it doesnt work we come out and redo *everything* exactly as if it were a fresh install and charge you for it.

That simple. The only hook is that you need an automated test to define "it works". Cant be that hard.
