<<Man's Eye Removed in Punishment for Crime

Look at this evil that man does in name of religious judicial activism!

Updated 8:50 AM ET August 15, 2000
DUBAI (Reuters) - An Egyptian man had one eye removed under the orders of a court in Saudi Arabia for throwing acid at another Egyptian, the first such punishment under Islamic law in the kingdom in 40 years, newspapers said Tuesday.
They said the 37-year-old Egyptian had his left eye removed last week at a hospital in the Muslim holy city of Medina after being found guilty of throwing acid at the face of a fellow Egyptian six years ago, damaging his left eye.

The attacker's efforts to avoid the operation failed when the victim refused to accept financial compensation of 800,000 riyals ($213,333).

The papers said it was the first time in more than 40 years that the literal eye-for-an-eye punishment had been carried out in the conservative kingdom.

Saudi Arabia applies strict Islamic sharia law, executing murderers, rapists and drug smugglers, often by public beheading. It also amputates the right hand for theft.

It has executed at least 83 people so far this year. >>

The evil that the man does in name of religion and God is condemnable and no chance be spared to condemn it!

In modern world this barbaric action carried out in name of judicial religious theocracy has no place.
