Jason and Steve,

I know I am not necessarily the best example, but I really find the on-line discourse a bit argumentative.

Lexar Media has controller technology that supports higher data transfer rates.
They could have easily used this technology to finalize a co-licensing agreement with SanDisk, but they decided not to.

Lexar Media cards will have a difficult time competing with SanDisk on a dollar-for-dollar basis because...

1) They are bleeding red ink and need to charge a premium now that card sales are accelerating.

2) They pay a premium on the flash storage chips.
Recall that Toshiba is a source for these chips.

3) They infringe on SanDisk's patents and will either...

a) have to pay for this right,
b) have to design around them,
c) have to agree to a license anyway on less favorable terms, or
d) spend more money on pursuing desperate (IMHO) legal maneuvers that could spell insolvency for the company in the form of treble damages.
