Kash Re..<<<AMD's chipsets ala the 750 are MANUFACTURED at UMC - a taiwan foundry.<<<<<

How many chipsets were contracted, did AMD have the ability to increase their orders. As far as I know, UMC was totally booked, including doing some of Vias. To increase the supply, AMD might have had to change a line in Austin to produce the extra chipsets.

<<<AMD failed to manufacture adequate quantities of this chipset relying on VIA.

FACT: <<<<

Fact, every company I know of relies on their subcontractors. GM relies on Delco Remy, Fisher Body Works etc, Boeing relies on GE or Pratt Witney for the engines, Ford relies on Firestone. What is your point. That AMD SHOULD TRUST NO ONE and start acting like Intel and try to do everything alone. Do you honestly believe AMD should start doing that? I assure you, I rely upon my vendors. And I believe a great part of AMD's success this yr. is a direct result of that reliance. Does copper interconnects and ev bus ring a bell?

<<AMD failed to extend the 750 to support PC 133 instead relying on AMD.<<<<<

Once again, the decision is which project do you wish to take the engineers off of and put them on upgrading the 750? Do you delay the 760 shipset in order to upgrade the chipset in order to compete with Via's kx-133. Which project are you going to starve of assets in order to allocate resources to upgrading the 750 chipset.

<<<You keep posting a bunch of BS <<

Gee, do you think I am the only one here doing that? Are you going to kick off everyone whom you deem has posted BS. How many posters would be left. I also said in my posts that the 3 wk. delay wouldn't hurt AMD in the long run. That AMDS revenues were just delayed into the 3q and 4q. And here is someone that agrees with me.

<<<<AMD forecasts that it will produce 3.6 million Athlons and Durons this quarter and 7.2 million in the fourth quarter. Of the 3.6 million chips this quarter, Duron will constitute about a million. The Duron, however, will not be in most PCs for the back-to-school rush because its release missed the PC design cycle. An AMD spokesman, however, said that it began shipping Durons to OEMs in June. Analysts feel that this will not materially affect its bottom line.

This could be an overreaction because other analysts believe this to be a non-issue for Duron. AMD might lose unit market share, but that's not expected to affect it financially. "AMD has only so much capacity and the Duron is a low-end product, so it's no big deal," said Dan Scovel, analyst at Needham & Co. "They are shipping tons of high-end Athlons."<<<<<<
