I wish I could make pot roast as good as my grandmother's. But she's passed on and I can't ask her how she did it. I think the secret is the cut of meat she used. It was tied with a string, and she cooked it in a rather small pot, not much bigger than the roast. When the meat was done, it was fork-tender, with a gelatinous chewiness. What was her secret?

My other grandmother's specialty was red beans and rice. I wish I could cook beans as creamy as hers. What was her secret?

I guess I should have asked before it was too late.
