<Same news>- CyberWorks's Li Resigns From Hutchison, H.K. Electric Positions
By Cathy Chan

Hong Kong, Aug. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. Chairman Richard Li is severing his ties with his tycoon father Li Ka-shing's empire, resigning from positions as deputy chairman and executive director of Hutchison Whampoa Ltd., Hutchison Whampoa said in a statement.

Li will also resign as executive director of Hong Kong Electric Holdings Ltd., one of the city's power utilities. The resignations will take effect immediately.

Li Ka-shing, the city's most prominent businessman, controls Hutchison Whampoa, Hong Kong's largest conglomerate, and Hong Kong Electric.

CyberWorks expects to become Asia's biggest Internet investment company tomorrow, when its merger with Cable & Wireless, Hong Kong's largest phone company, takes effect.

``It's something that Mr Li has already made known before the merger is completed,'' said Joan Wagner, CyberWorks spokeswoman. ``He has to focus his attention on the newly merged company.''
