In reality both are 100 – 200 kbits/s.

What reality? Here's a piece of reality for you

Data Rate

In theory: GPRS 171.2, 1X 307
In implementation: GPRS 86, 1X 144
Typical: GPRS < 50(assuming 8 channels and no error checking) 1X 130(actually today's news showed a 153 in the real world)

CDMA1 operator needs a "deal" to get 1X
Korea is going 1X this fall, care to find out when and where it had to sign a deal?

GPRS is packet data which uses the portion of the channel that the voice doesn´t.

A lie like this is not worth of a rebuttal.

You could choose not to get GPRS, or you could get directly to W-CDMA. This would not make any sense, though, as it is most desirable.

Which is not make sense? GPRS? WCDMA? or simply you?

I was delighted to see the other great thinker CRay33 commenting your mail
