Press Release
Mort Topfer, Director, Counselor to the CEO and Former Vice Chairman of Dell, Joins PartMiner's Board of Directors
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 16, 2000--PartMiner®, Inc., a provider of business-to-business procurement services to the global electronic components industry, today announced the appointment of Dell's Mort Topfer to its board of directors.

Topfer, former vice chairman of Dell and a 40-year veteran of the electronics industry, currently serves as counselor to chief executive officer of Dell and is a member of the company's board of directors. In addition, he also serves on the board of directors of British Sky Broadcasting Ltd. and Crossroads Systems Inc. and serves on the advisory board of Singapore Technologies. Topfer was introduced to PartMiner by Adam Dell, managing general partner of Impact Venture Partners, a PartMiner investor. He will advise PartMiner's board about matters such as operations, quality and customer experience issues.

``I support PartMiner's effort to streamline the electronic components supply chain as both a board member and a customer,'' said Topfer. ``The company was one of the first traditional distributors to combine real-world expertise with e-commerce technology to simplify the procurement process.''

Prior to being elected to his current position in December 1999, Topfer served as vice chairman of Dell for five years. In this position, he shared the Office of the Chief Executive Officer with Michael Dell, chairman and CEO, and Kevin Rollins, vice chairman.

Before joining Dell in May 1994, Topfer served as corporate executive vice president of Motorola, Inc. and president of Motorola's Land Mobile Products Sector, where he managed a $3 billion mobile, portable and data systems function. Additionally, Topfer helped build and ultimately spun-off Motorola's $2 billion paging business.

During his 23-year career with Motorola, Topfer was part of the team that led the company's quality effort, resulting in receipt of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in 1988. Prior to joining Motorola, Topfer spent 11 years with RCA Laboratories in various research and development, and management positions. He began his professional career as a research engineer with Kollsman Instruments Corporation in New York.

``We are delighted to be associated with someone of Mort's caliber, and believe his renowned expertise in the electronics industry is an enormous plus for PartMiner. Notably, Mort is the first Dell executive to join the board of a B2B marketplace,'' said Dan Nissanoff, president and CEO of PartMiner. ``His vote of confidence in our business and our vision means a lot to us.''
