John, >Curious to hear details on servers, PC's.
Looks like a tale of two cities. Excuses on the server side (there's that component shortage excuse again), outstanding in PCs. WRT components, I don't recall Compaq using that excuse, and they had terrific growth in servers and turned profitable again in PCs.
UNIX server revenue growth, driven by excellent performance in the L-Class, was up 13 percent against a tough comparison with the year-ago quarter. PC servers were up only slightly in revenue as a result of product transitions and component shortages. On an aggregated UNIX, NT® and Linux basis, HP is the overall server market leader, with almost 20 percent share of total revenues.(3)
``We're the fastest-growing PC vendor worldwide, with home PCs and notebooks turning in another exceptional quarter. Our home PC business grew 62 percent in revenue, despite a relatively flat U.S. retail market. In notebooks, which grew 93 percent in revenue, we have a flourishing retail program and a strategic foothold in the enterprise market.

Edit, shows you what I know, up about 8 after hours. Point, though, if you look at SI's financial page for HP, and today's results, they had sequentially down quarters in revs. How does that and up 8 work? Carly is a charmer all right. ;-) |
