a 50% income tax may sound like a lot, but add it yours:
fed 28%, state 9%, ss 15%, medicare, unemployment, woorkmans comp (mine is 9%), private insurance.

you can nitpick some of these items, SS has cutoffs, some states don't tax.

the fact is that most Euros don't pay much more.
