Jack,

Re: electricity layer of value chain

I think of this layer in a broader sense . For example, I consider JDSU to be operating in this space as they are essentially moving wavelenghts of light around. Furthermore, I actually consider many of the companies operating in the physical OSI 1 layer to be part of this space. However, there are more concrete examples coming out of this layer.
For example, take a look at the numbers coming out of Analog Devices yesterday....

Analog Devices' Third-Quarter Revenues Increase 85% To $701 Million; EPS Rise 187% to $0.43 * Revenues increased 85% year over year and 21% sequentially

While I would agree that ADI is not situated at the bottom of the electricity value layer, I certainly consider them situated right between the semiconductor and electricity value chains.

And if you ask me I think the most interesting areas for indigenous control of the value chain are where the layers intersect --especially at the lower level.

Also, today I was reading the SEC filings on PIII, a supplier of custom power solutions to the telcos. As I recall the revenues were nearly double from last year. In my book, that constitutes 'tornado watch' conditions.

PIII will IPO this week and I wouldn't be surprised if it were a screamer.
