They were clustering long before Sun or anyone else. On reviews, CPQ's UNIX is consistently rated ahead of SOLARIS. How you came up with this meaning that SOLARIS is the OS of choice because of Compaq is beyond me. This "supercomputer" will NOT be based on Intel's 32-bit Pentium 4's. It will be based on the Compaq's 64-bit Alpha. Of the top 500 supercomputers in the world, only one is based on the Pentium. Also, clock for clock, the Pentium 4 is going to be a dog. My guess is a 1.1 Ghz Pentuim 3 will be faster or equal to a 1.4 Ghz Pentium 4. Wouldn't it be a huge win for SUNW if they could duplicate CPQ's design with either (1) INTEL based processors You must have not been following the news very close lately. Intel has been critical of Sun for giving lackluster SOLARIS support for IA64. I have no idea where you came up with that stuff.....
