twfowler, actually this position is valid whether the Federal gov't is returned to a Constitutional state or not. The personal income tax is unnecessarily invasive into people's private finances. Property taxes, consumption taxes, or corporate income taxes are all better methods.

WRT the Libertarian position, you are probably correct on a realistic level that a phase in period would be required as the Michelinos and kvkkc1s of the world would fight to keep their precious big gov't programs in place. But as they're so fond of pointing out, Harry's not going to win this year. But the Libertarians will add a few more elected officials this year, and in 2002, and so on, and that's how the phase in will work. Despite the rhetoric of the big gov't supporters, the Libertarians don't expect to change things overnight.
