On my system, the Product Identification can be located in the registry under the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

ProductId

Good idea for everyone to record this string in a safe place.

Cheers, PW.

P.S. Perhaps it would be more useful to be able to determine the ProductId expected (demanded) by your Win98 CD. The ProductId in your registry would match that found on the original CD. I don't know if an appropriate ProductId is required or a specific ProductId is needed.
