<I don't necessarily see the two issues as being linked.
Your assumption seems to be that homosexuals were never in the military to begin with. I believe that assumption is invalid. Homosexuals have served with honor in the military for a long time.>

How do you know? Name a few. An honorable discharge is the standard as long as you haven’t committed a crime during the hitch.

<Therefore, don't ask, don't tell simply allows them to serve without intruding deeply into their lives, and at the same time takes into consideration the cohesiveness of the troops who find the behavior distasteful.>

Believe me, contrary to popular belief and polls, the folks who run the Armed Forces do not agree with the don’t ask, don’t tell policy. As they are bound to follow orders, they have two choices, grin and bear it or resign. The senior leaders don’t have the guts to stand up for what’s right. Have you heard of low retention rates and recruiting problems? Guess what, people don’t like the kind of publicity they see coming from the military about hs.

<Why should I know if you're a homosexual, heterosexual or beastialogist? (which by the way, someone in the west wing seems to enjoy watching) What I find amusing in the tenor of your post is the assertion that people other than homosexual practice biblical pure sex or something. The donkey shows on the borders of Mexico were not started by a bunch of puritan christian soldiers. What's more sick, a bunch of drunk soldiers watching a donkey do an 18 year old whore, or two women engaging in cunningless?
And I won't even bother to describe some of the "normal heterosexual" behavior in the Barrio's of the Phillipines and other places.>

I do not condone the act of watching such shows, or partaking in other such activities. I don’t believe that is pertinent as I stated before. Two wrongs don’t make a right. I will tell you that esprit d’ corps is non-existent in situations where hs are involved. Take the FT Campbell incident as an example. Alcohol brings out the worst in some people. The pent up anger resulted in the loss of a life. Even though I abhor the practices of hs, I don’t wish physical harm on them. I believe unlike the mainstream media that they can be converted. The theory that hs is genetic is a myth imho. I also believe that most of the service members who frequent the aforementioned places realize that they aren’t all they’re cranked up to be. They usually straighten up and outgrow the nonsense.

<Oh, and please... don't EVEN try and pretend senior military personal haven't attended those places and promoted them culturally as some kind of "passage to man-hood" or something. What I believe you're really saying is does homophobia exist in the military? And you've aswered that question rather well. It certainly does exist. However, that doesn't make it right. >

I think your choice of words is incorrect. A phobia implies a fear. I believe your statement earlier about distasteful is more accurate. It’s hard for me as a Christian to accept the current mood that some people believe hs is an acceptable lifestyle. When you have distrust in a unit that causes bad feelings amongst the members, bad things are bound to happen. As far as senior military personnel, they may have attended some of the places in there careers, but in today’s zero defect military, they’d be foolish to be seen in those type of places.
