Your going to kill when you heard what I just "invested" in. <G>
I went car shopping.
I was reading the paper today and found TWO '70 GS 455 Stage-1 Buicks, both from different sellers in the paper. Keep in mind these cars are rare. I've not seen an authentic one for years...let alone two in the same day. One in MD, the other in VA. I made some phone calls and FOUND the car of my dreams. A 1970 GS455 Stage-1, Hurst 4 speed, full power, air induction, limited slip, AC, roman red (bright red/orange), black top. An Original documented survivor. Not a replica, not a restoration, but original. The car is in showroom condition. Mucho miles, but none-the-less in concorse condition. It won best of show at last buick meet it competed in.
I left my current project to drive the beast.<VBG> Some dude from out of state had an appointment tommorow to see it. So I waisted no time.
Here's my experience: I drove the car around the block to get the feel for her. I had to get my confidence up before I unloaded almost 8 liters of gas-sucking american muscle. I then proceded to "test drive" the buick. I started out slow in 1st and gave it a little gas. I Smoked the tires (unintentionally) without even trying. Did'nt even clutch, just accelerated from about 15MPH to 30 or so. Brought it up to about 35 or so. Hit 2nd, tires grabbed hard, but could'nt hold (these are wide stock meats...very impressive). Hit 3rd shortly after....tires still would not grab until after singing a little. Not enough road to make it into 4th under full power. The car does documented low 12's with the right tires.
Needless to say I called my broker and sold my entire position of BDK to cover this latest investment. I bought the buick.<VBG>
And just in time for the holliday road trip to WV. At 10 miles/gallon (93 octane minimum) it will be a costly one. But it will be worth it<VBG>. |
