Re: ANTC/NT Arris Interactive's - VPN, USB, and VoIP Plans

Thread- Just a little PR below out of Antec(ANTC) and Nortel(NT) joint venture, Arris Interactive. A few items of significance out of the PR:

1. VPN
2. USB
3. VoIP

Kind of gives you and indication of where the future of cable modems are heading. VPN for telecommuters. USB for self installs which is very important to really get the game rolling. And IP voice of which I need add no more hype then what's already out there. -MikeM(From Florida)

Arris Interactive Announces Re-Qualification of The Cornerstone CMTS 1000 and Certification of the Cornerstone CM 200

ATLANTA, Aug. 17-- Arris Interactive, a Nortel Networks/ANTEC venture, today announced that the Cornerstone Cable Modem Termination System 1000 has earned Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification(DOCSIS) re-qualification status by CableLabs®. In addition, the USB version of the Cornerstone Cable Modem 200 was awarded CableLabs DOCSIS certification status.

DOCSIS is the cable industry initiative that defines interface and interoperability requirements for products that provide high-speed access over interactive broadband networks. Arris is one of only a four companies worldwide able to offer both CableLabs® Qualified CMTS and CableLabs Certified cable modem products.

The Cornerstone CMTS 1000 is a scalable headend solution that enables cable operators to provide high-speed services to their customers. The CMTS 1000 offers up to eight channels upstream per downstream channel for flexibility. The open and scalable architecture of the CMTS 1000 enables cable operators to support a broad range of applications and provides a platform for delivering a variety of existing and future services such as Virtual Private Networking (VPN), as well as Internet enhanced voice, video and data converged broadband networking. Its unique design features low latency and jitter. With a kit available later this year, the CMTS 1000 can be upgraded to DOCSIS 1.1 making it an excellent choice for operators contemplating offering Voice over IP (VoIP) telephone service.

The Cornerstone CM 200 is a digital cable modem designed to provide two- way high-speed Internet access to PCs used in homes and small offices. The CM 200 features a USB port that will allow the consumer to self-install their cable modem, enabling a retail deployment model. In addition, with the ability to upgrade the CM 200 to DOCSIS 1.1-based software, the CM 200 protects operators and subscribers investments and provides future migration and revenue opportunities without obsolescence.

``Arris has a long history of working closely with CableLabs® on various specification-setting initiatives. The re-qualification of Cornerstone CMTS 1000 reinforces their continued commitment to providing comprehensive, interoperable solutions,'' said Dr. Richard R. Green, President and CEO CableLabs.

Re-qualification of the CMTS 1000 and certification of the CM 200 show that these products once again successfully completed the extensive series of tests and evaluations administered by CableLabs.

``Working together with Nortel Networks and ANTEC, Arris continues to be the leader in delivering a complete end-to-end solution to our customers based on CableLabs Certified and Qualified equipment,'' said Oscar Rodriguez, President and Chief Operating Officer, Arris.
