Actually, all I really meant was that it's easy to hate a MM just because it's unpleasant to execute through them (as opposed to an ECN). When I said "against" I was just referring to preferencing them. If you are trading then I think that to one degree or another you are competing with professionals and the so-called semi-professionals alike. If you know of a market where I can just trade against novices such as myself then please let me know. While you are in fact competing for X shares at X price, there are enough competitors out there that I don't really think of it as a competition. There's room for a lot of winners. If I make or lose money, it's because of what I did or didn't do, not because of a "competitor". Mark
