Agilent earnings beat Street

Despite issuing a prior earnings warning, Agilent Technologies (A: news, msgs) reported pro forma net earnings that soundly beat analysts lowered earnings expectations. The company's net income increased 15 percent to $155 million, or 33 cents a share, up from $135 million, or 29 cents a share in the year-ago quarter. Analysts expected earnings of 20 cents, according to First Call. The company earned about 29 cents a share in the quarter when accounting for stock appreciation rights. Meanwhile, sales increased 28 percent to 2.7 billion, compared with $2.1 billion in the year-ago period. Shares rose 3 to 46 1/2 in NYSE trading Thursday.
