Campaign stunt backfires, man nearly dies:

St. Cloud resident Stanley Kampa had a brush with death Tuesday morning after ingesting a prescription drug he bought in Canada.
.
.
.
Kampa bought his medications while with a group of about 36 other U.S. senior citizens on an Aug. 4 Rx Express trip to Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Rx Express is a summerlong busing project financed by U.S. Senate candidate Mark Dayton and organized locally by the Central Minnesota Senior Federation and Central Minnesota Citizens Organized Acting Together, better known as COACT.

Prescription drugs can be 40 percent to 70 percent less expensive in Canada than in the United States. The Rx Express transports Americans to Canada free of charge so they can buy prescription drugs at a lower price. Two of the buses have traveled from St. Cloud and back this summer.

Kampa wants to make sure those who go to Canada get specific, accurate instructions from the druggist and don't take any drug substitutes.

"It's hard to say where the mistake happened," said Sharon Ruhland, communications director for the Mark Dayton Campaign. "We'll work with the Kampa family to work it out."

It should be noted that one of Dayton's democrat opponents is a liability trial lawyer. Undoubtably he's sniffing around the case at this very moment.
