I replaced mine with a $29 Intellimouse. When I got the "no-mouse" message, I thought it was that mouse, as when I put the old mouse in, that mouse worked (after 2 tries, though). So I used the old mouse until I got the "no-mouse" message again. Somehow, I don't think I'm out of the woods yet.
