I certainly do not condone the actions of the state's attorney, since the intent was to defraud. I wonder if there were a Federal angle, since they were SS checks? I would guess, though, that either spouse has power of attorney, by the way. Otherwise, why set up a bank account in her name? Why not just sign the check over to himself?
I doubt that a woman in business is helpless, even in Florida, but I do not live there, so I will not press the point. I know that old boys networks can be a pain in the rump, but they are so to any new entrant into a field, not merely a woman. My wife joined Civitan a number of years ago, in fact, broke the gender line for the Annapolis chapter, and part of the reason was that Civitan wanted to recruit, to eliminate legal vulnerability on that score. Perhaps your daughter could join some of those organizations, like Kiwanis, Lions, and so forth. These are the key networking opportunities in any area. Also, if she would participate in the electoral process by contributing substantial to some campaigns, she would have a chance to get to know some politicians herself. Several hundred here, a thousand there, and suddenly one is a committee woman for the state party........ |
