Have you ever heard the saying. "The captain goes down with the ship"? I think that phrase applies to professional management. It doesn't matter who's "fault" it is, the issue is responsibility, a high level executive manager cannot just throw up his hands and shrug his shoulders and say "that's not my fault", "I couldn't have predicted that"... etc. Everything is his ultimate responsibility because no matter what the cause of any problem the buck stops there. It may not be his actual "fault" in that he caused the problem directly or even indirectly but it is his responsibility and there is no weasling on that issue. Taking the blame for any problems whatever their cause is something that should be expected, It is called managerial integrity.

If AMD did not perform to their full potential for any reason it is management's responsibility and by extension their fault as well.
