The only reason I said to format it, was to use it as a second drive once you moved all your data to your C:.

Once you have your data copied onto C: you can toss the drive in the garbage if you want, or use it as a second hard drive.

If you use a null modem cable, you are going to take a long time to transfer data. It all depends on the amount of data you have. If you are talking hundreds of MB, count on many hours.
