In my mind this is a lib issue, not a conservative one. Clinton raised Medicare to no-cap status, which screws your workers.

Yeah, well my original point was that I'm tired of those statistics that are constantly cited that lower income workers pay only "4%", "2%" - blah blah, of taxes paid. My unscientific observations are that fica is a burden on young workers with a small net worth only and that nobody else pays it. And it is more damaging than federal income tax.

A lot of those statistics claiming that low and middle income workers "pay no tax" conveniently leave off fica as if it is some sort of investment or 401K plan or something.

Personally I think they should roll fica taxes into the federal tax system and restructure the whole thing. This should be acceptable to the current retirees who the politicians are so afraid of since it theoretically would not affect their benefits. But as soon as somebody other than the lower net worth people had to pay this, maybe we could get some real reform.
