what was annoying to me was the market punished for saying it would miss a quarter but meet or exceed the next quarter. Longer than a few weeks term, like Q4, quidance remained the same - meet or beat 39¢.

Agilent DID up revenue growth from 15% to 20% for 2001 and said margins would improve to 8% but I've been using those numbers in my model already.

Perhaps the companies SHOULD whip-saw the analysts on a more regular basis so they stop looking at the next week and concentrate on the longer term? Tell us who will be making money 2 years from now!

Wishful thinking...
