Earlier in the year, Gemstar purchased several electronic book companies, notably Rocket eBooks. Now RCA is joining the ebook revolution with two models due this fall (no prices were given). The pair will have a big coming out party in New York City on September 24th at the New York Is Book Country Fair, a huge street festival celebrating books of all types. According to RCA, thousands of books will be available upon introduction, in addition to popular magazines and newspapers. The REB1100 will have a 5.5-inch monochrome screen and a modem, and will weigh in at 17 ounces. The REB1200 has an 8.5-inch color screen, a built-in modem and an Ethernet port for a cable modem or DSL It weighs 33 ounces. Both have 8MB of onboard memory and accept 64MB SmartMedia cards.
