RE: Buy and Hold Stu, Like you I bought my first shares of MRVC on 2/9/97 and haven't sold a share. I agree with your lessons. An interest and aptitude in things technical is very useful. I routinely talk to investors who only buy what they know (Merck, Home Depot, etc) and have heard about investing in high tech, but avoid it. To your lessons, I would add the importance of understanding the trading dynamics and the financial strategies many high tech companies are subjected to. It frequently defies conventional buy-sell wisdom. For example, one of the stocks I owned fell to $1.00/share due to high risk financing that allowed the investors to sell the stock short. There was no way to figure if it would be delisted. Two years later it was $90/share. MRVC like a lot of other tech shares has been volatile. Some can trade that. I just grin and bear it. Getting a general idea of what can happen behind the scenes is useful. George D.
