Most conservatives are not creationists, and there is nothing wrong with using religious belief to help people. Even 12 Step Programs, like AA, invoke reliance on a Higher Power, however you conceive it, and making amends after a moral inventory.
In the Fifties, even the black community was less subject to social pathologies. The dreadful irony is that as discrimination lessened, and opportunity increased, the rate of illegitimate births and marital breakdown among blacks sky rocketed, more people became chronically unemployed in the inner city, drug abuse increased, and so did violence. Discrimination was very wrong, but something was right. The diagnosis differs. Some blame the Great Society for increasing welfare dependency, disincentives to family formation, and the elimination of male role models from young lives. Some primarily blame the Movement, for encouraging drug abuse and free love, things that middle- class kids had the family back up to deal with if they went sour, but devastated the ghetto. There are other parts to the analysis, but this will suffice.......
