Great post!
This shows we are worrying too much. That the stock value is up quite a bit shows when posted this way, as opposed to our incessent gnashing that we are behind everyone, and that we are being so under appreciated.
Re the timeline. It is probably somewhere between your belief that it will be over in a year and mine that this race will not be over for decades. Why?
I don't think that we have a clear idea of where all this is really going, and what the market segments are.
Based on GM and IBM, GMGC is doing something very right--they clearly have something and likely control of the segment they are in.
Markyboy, please tell us what segment that is.
Based on what I've gathered over the past several years, the segment requires voice recognition, selecting data from a large distributed database, analysis of the data, and customizable vocal response based on that data analysis, all done iteratively, and all done within an ASP model.
Unless you already have a huge number of IT people completely comfortable with the required hardware and software to keep this all going and up to date, all the time and seamlessly, ASP is the way to go on this. I thing many companies that make and sell things will go ASP rather than take this puppy on themselves.
I run a business that is strongly based on client contact. I'd love to use what GMGC does. But, I'm waiting for IBM to make it usable for the whole business. I looked at RMAG and thought. What the hell do I do if we are dependent on this and it goes down.
We try to keep up with our Email problems, and the distrubuted calender we use, and the software upgrades, and teh lack of some software talking to each other, and the server, but not this. And I'm really thinking about going ASP for all the functions. We are a consulting business, not an IT business and that overhead is just that,, along with benefits and payroll taxes for something that is not a revenue source.
The key advantages that GMGC has, IMO, and I could use more info on this, are the voice with personality, the nature and complexity of the distributed data base that can be worked with, the uniqueness of the iterativeness, and the ASP.
Is this the "total package"? If it is why isn't the company saying so? They are technocrats of the most typical sort... They just seem so completely incompetent in PR.
OK, back to the task....If I think about GMGC for too long my emotions come out...Did I tell you how incompetent they are in PR, and how angry it makes me?... OK, back to the task.
We are too complex and too expensive for mundane tasks, and that is the first uses of this technology. IMO, that is why it looks like we keep losing out to newbees. Again, clarify if I am incorrect.
The really big players, who see exactly where all this will go in the next several years head directly for us.
This may well be the killer app that we all believed it was.
Patience and determination separate the successful from the average--the lucky are playing a different game for as long as their luck lasts..
I see it in my life,in my career, and in every venue.
We need to be patient and determined, as does GMGC.
Best regards to all longs,
