There are a number of ways companies can go with excess cash flow. The can "pay a dividend" by buying back stock, they can invest in companies without buying them outright (Intel Capital).

I like their decision to build new businesses through aquisition. But the jury is out as to if this will be successful, it could get ugly if these companies keep bleeding money. Just have to wait and see.
