>>I recall when I first posted back in late Summer 97, Sector welcomed me to the thread and guaranteed me a double in the next year. Well it didn't quite work out that way; but in three years it's worked out much better.<<

That's the rub here....has been for me anyway...finding something great, but being way, way early!
My investing started in '93 with my first purchase of a stock instead of a mutual fund....it was Cisco, so I'm not complaining, and have spun off a lot of money to invest elsewhere. From readings in Individual Investor back in '95 to '97, I picked up some names I was very interested in, like MRVC, CUBE, Human Genome, Wind River Systems, Oracle. The best thing I did was to set up some tracking portfolios on these stocks and others, so I could see what the stock did over time. I traded in and out of Cube, and have done ok there, but never bought MRVC until it got wacked down to around $8. Then I jumped in (shoulda bought more), and have hung on since. How can I complain about this? I can't, and don't have the time to do much 'day' trading, but I do buy when things get cheap. I won't sell yet, the story is just unfolding (finally) and we are about to get discovered, IMO, so hanging on is my strategy. My best investments have used this strategy....track a stock, then buy when it gets whacked. It's worked great with WIND, Oracle, Trimble, Cube, and others. Human Genome got away from me though...too many stocks, so little time! So, now recently, I'm getting into trading more often with JDSU, to ride that cycle up and down, but it takes more time and concentration!
I used to be pissed at those stupid analysts who would whack a stock and make the price dive, but I finally saw the light and view those episodes of stock manipulation as gold nuggets. So, I'm a buy and holder (Still have a big chunk of Cisco), a buy low, sell higher, and now a frequent trader!
I do DD and have lurked on several boards for many years, but my best trick is those tracking portfolios!
So, it seems that whatever path lead us all here is not as important than the fact that we are here....So, no complaining guys....the stock is above $70 already!
Back to lurking,
CMM
PS........I also got some LDP when it was on sale recently, and some Marconi too.
