A question regarding margin accounts. I have a hang-up about this and I would like your opinion.

I believe margin is needed. But, If I have ample funds in my account to cover my trades and I short a stock, I don't feel I should be forced to do it via a margin account.

The firm deposits interest and deducts fees and commissions in a cash account so why not deduct any costs the firm may encounter borrowing the shares in it also? It's just a matter of accounting.

What say ye?
