According to The Economist "The SPLA and its allies have made big gains", "they are threatening the oil pipeline" and so on.

Source: the SPLA. Reliable? No. Propaganda? Yes.

How many hundred times have the rebels said they will intensify military activities around the oil fields, launch attacks, stop the petroleum operations etc.? In June they even claimed they had forced the government to close many oil wells, "this is the beginning of the end of the squandering of Sudan's economic resources"... etc.

True? No. The only war they can win is the propaganda war.
Remember what the SPLA said when the Chinese started to construct the pipeline?
"This is an impossible project, not one barrel of oil will be produced, we can halt the oil exports whenever we want to", and so on.

And many western journalists keep taking the SPLA press releases seriously.
