<It just doesn't make sense for you to value Jill, and me to value Jane, and nobody values Jennifer>
Maybe the selfness you mentioned.
I interACT with Jill, She REACTS with me, HARMONY. I do not inteRACT with Jane, she does not REACT with me, no HARMONY. I inteRACT with Jennifer, I do not get the REACTION I desire, no HARMONY.
I do not think that really answers your question on the level you meant it but partially. What is does do is bring in another aspect of the equation. Our complexity has made HARMONY, or the perception of HARMONY, more complex. Why does my inteRACT with Jennifer not get me the desired REACTION.
<Why should we consider the pain or death of others any differently>
These collections of HARMONIES become the building blocks of our selfworth, wholeness. If we loose a building block we are pained. I inteRACT with Jennifer, Jennifer dies, no HARMONY.
Just making a stab at it. What do you think?
