Actually, I did answer it: liberalism is generally inside the consensus, that specific position was not. I said that I was talking about my perspective in one instance, and common usage in another. I consider support of late term abortion to be an extreme position, and over 70 percent of the electorate opposes partial birth abortion, but supporting it does not, in common usage, make one an extremist. Nevertheless, liberals widely, if not universally, support the practice.
I was on the Left, came from a Hubert Humphrey supporting family, and read the New Republic and the New York Review of Books, among other things. There is nothing intrinsically derogatory in my definition of liberalism in the later post, where I addressed common usage. It was merely descriptive. I actually do think that some reactionaries are hanging out in the conservative camp. I do not consider it an invalidation of the generalization I made about conservatives, and I do not consider the generalization to be particularly self- congratulatory. In fact, in that post, the only ones with particular cause to complain are moderates, who come off as wishy washy. Thus, I do not know why you regard the actual discussion of usage to be partisan......... |
