Cowgirl: How about "Herb?" <g>

Who mentioned "Herbs" here ... was that you, Clapston?

About a month ago, this little retail establishment in South Austin called "The Herb Bar" (sell herbs) had what was billed as the first annual Herb convention ... About 40, as I recall, men named "Herb" showed up ... LOL. From all over the place.

Clapston & Dealer re fried green tomatoes.

In KY, traditional way as far as I know (mother, grandmother made this way) use CORN MEAL instead of flour.

Slice 'em about 3/16" <g> ... I think 1/8" is too 'thin' and 1/4" is too thick ...

Coat front and back (or top and bottom) in cornmeal. Season with salt and/or pepper as they fry up in skillet. Cook on MEDIUM heat -- not HIGH heat ... about 5 minutes per side ... give 'em TIME to get tender.

I have a hard time finding them here. Green ones. No grocery has; the county vegetable 'farmer's market' ... vendors from south TX and Mexico ... sometimes they bring some; most often, they don't.

This completely exhausts my knowledge on fried green tomatoes. LOL. OH! Wait a minute:

My stepmother used to make 'piccalilly.' (spelling on that is questionable.)

Green tomatoes thru meat grinder (food processor these days would be used, I would think) ... I think some onion went in it ... can't remember what else. Ha.

I gotta go do the 'hand-held-hose' thing pretty quickly this morning ... rose bushes in back yard. See you folks later.
