This is the news that I have been waiting for! I have been planning on purchasing a ton of @home shares, which is going to be priced at $7. Before I make this big move, I have been researching the competition. Unfortunately, I have discovered one that sounds bettter than what @home has to offer: TimeWarner's RoadRunner. Here is the comparsion.

RoadRunner @Home

Monthly Price $35-$45 $40-$45
Setup *Minimal $150
Speed-downstream ~up to 27 mb/s 1.4 mb/s
Speed-upstream 768 kb/s 768 kb/s?

*Cable modem can be rented and added to the monthly price.
~The actual speed is dependent on the CPU and network card. High-end PC can receive in excess of 4 mb/s.

@Home has been in business for quite awhile and surprisingly they have only $5,000 @home subscribers and some 4 @Work customers. @Home has grown about 4 times this 1st qrt of '97 compared to previous year. @Home does have many large communications companies as investors. TimeWarner is by itself a huge company, including the TimeWarnerCable division that has over 11 million subscribers.

This is it for now. I will continue to research. I may be off with those comparison numbers but they are what I have read so far. Please feel free to fine-tune it. The bottom line for success of these two companies will be the setup fee and the monthly costs. There was a survey that I read on NEWS.COM that showed 1 out of 5 Internet users willing to pay $40 a month.

Please comment. We need to help each and determine if @Home is one of the best investments to come in a long time. High-speed Internet access business will explode in the coming years.
