Good question. I personally try to use T/A to help me get in at a good place so that by using a combination of T/A and S/A (statistical analysis), I can be on the sideline in cash in major drawdowns. When I have screwed up in the past is when I go long a stock just prior to the end of a major rally and the stock has nowhere but down to go. Then if I write calls, I have to roll down and then buy my way out of my position if the stock turns north again. I think for me the best solution is being patient and waiting for the right entrance before going long.
