Michael:
Much appreciate the compliments, and like you, my heart aches for the Russian military men involved and their families.
Many years ago, I travelled to Keil, Germany to compete in a European championship. On one of the days that I had off, I travelled over to the WW2 Submarine monument that is located there. It honors the thousands of German sailors who were killed in submarines during that conflict.
It was very moving. Hundreds of bronze plaques, each inscribed with the Sub's number, the date on which the boat met its end, the manner in which it was sunk, the names of the crewmen, and their respective ages Few were beyond their early twenties..
They also had a WW2 sub there which one could enter. It gave me chills and I don't suffer from claustrophobia.
