Who would have thunk it? It was the surplus created more or less by gridlock that has turned our economy into a rocket. Republicans get most of their tax cuts eliminated and democrats lose the spending programs they are nominally for and presto, we get surplus, captital moving to the private sector, increase productivity. But now the surplus needs to be addressed. There are many imbalances and many things that are unfair. The surplus needs to be used. It's unfair for me to be in what amounts to the 40% bracket but its more unfair for my daughter and her husband to lose a third of their meager income to federal, state and fica taxes. It's unfair for my parents to have to choose between food and needed medicine. Yeah I help my family but we are lucky. Some average middle class parent, paying off college loans, a mortgage, helping their kids and their parents need those targeted Gore tax cuts and programs that have become a necessity more than i need a 33% max rate. And if it took the extra 7% tax on the wealthy to cause the surplus which funded our expansion which produced rapid income gains for me and others, I can live with it for a long time while we address the inequities the expansion has caused.
