NW.... "Knowtechs" at the RB/CPQ board said this... "Raccoon - The shortage mainly includes 700 MHZ PIII chips
and 700 Mhz Xeon chips. I think Intel is playing their classic
marketing game. Ramp up on the newer faster chips and quit
producing as many of the "current chips". Thus creating an
artificial demand for the "current speeds" that Intel can then
say "oh but we have the newer ones ready now". Then they
get a premium for the chips. Meanwhile maintaing a premium
price for the older ones too. Intel is in their own world. If the
industry would support and help companies like AMD with
their Athlon and Compaq with their Alpha, the industry would
deal Intel a well deserved blow! By the way CPQ is Intel's
single largest customer, bar none. Intel is very arrogant and
thinks the world will continue to go their way. Sound familar?
Talk about an anti-competitive company! Microsoft is nothing
compared to Intel.
